Surviving and thriving

When Jerry White, then a college junior, stepped on a landmine in Israel, he lost a part of his right leg. But, what he gained was a life’s purpose and the strength to help others.

I Will Not Be Broken (book giveaway)

I just started reading the book I Will Not Be Broken: 5 Steps To Overcoming A Life Crisis by Jerry White. Mr White is the founder of Survivor Corps; he lost a leg in a landmine accident in 1984.

I Will Not Be Broken - book review

I was approached about a month ago by Dani Savilla from Survivor Corps to review the book I Will Not Be Broken: Five Steps to Overcoming a Life Crisis, http://iwillnotbebroken.org by Jerry White. Dani was so enthusiastic about the book that I decided to give it a read.

Mightier than the Sword. . .

You have to see where you have been. Or so they say. I believe it’s true.

As author Jerry White said: everyone has a date with disaster. Sooner or later, no matter how good or bad a person, everyone slams directly into uncomfortable, life altering emotions or events. And then, for a time, perhaps forever, life becomes divided into before and after. Before this happened, all of this. After, all of that.

REVIEW: "I Will Not Be Broken" by Jerry White

Book Review: I Will Not Be Broken, by Jerry White

Typically a book review isn’t something I’d do here. Not that I don’t read–oh, no. I probably read more than anyone you know. Seriously. I just don’t tend to review the books I read. I never feel like I can get my point across as eloquently as the author did in the first place. Will I recommend books? Yes. Review them? Not likely.

I posted this on my military blog, A Soldier’s Perspective, as well.

“After the worst happens, the two most common pyschological responses are known as intrusion and avoidance. Intrusion involves suddenly relieving a traumatic experience, and can include nightmares and flahbacks…

Avoidance - the repression of painful memories - is the other coping device we use in the face of disaster.”

Survival

The Art of Survival: An Interview with Jerry White found on Guy Kawasaki’s blog, How to Change the World

Of all the articles and stories I read this week this one stuck with me. I am fascinated by how much of what Jerry White has learned through is own personal tragedy translates to all of us and how we go through life.

Surviving a failed project

I read an excellent post from Guy Kawasaki's blog, How to change the world. The post was an interview with Jerry White, the co-founder of Survivor Corps. The interview focused on the art of survival. How do you go on after a tragedy, how do you move away from that event?

my food for thought for today

sure, i have not lost a limb in landmine but, i think we have all faced crises in our lives that can feel like we have lost a limb, lost faith or lost ourselves. i’m the first to admit that i have and i know i will again. I just aim to not cause them myself as much. That may be a sign that I’m conceding a little to growing up. Who knows, really.

SYNOPSIS

Swallow is the story of two friends Tolani and Rose; working class girls from entirely different backgrounds with nothing in common except their hustle and struggle not to be crushed by the society. They work at the Federal Community Bank and through their experiences; we see the way people in authority take advantage of those under them and we experience their hardships and frustrations.

Choose Life

Crisis and pain can hold us hostage for a time, but we still have a choice in how we will respond to our circumstances, no matter how dire. When something disrupts our life, how do we move forward?

Dealing with loss (my experience)

In November of 2006 I lost my cousin to a fatal road accident. It was even more harrowing because I had known him for little over 10 years; both families had recently become reconciled. He was also one of my favorite cousins.

I will Not Be Broken

This could very well be a cry from the heart of many people today but it is also a book written by Jerry White. Life sometimes hands us more than we think we can bear; but we need to be able to stand up tall and say I Will Not Be Broken!
